27 goals in the opening weekend of the Premier League. Not sure too many of us will have predicted Watford losing 3-0 at home to Brighton or Chelsea losing 4-0 to Manchester United.
Here’s the scoop on the stats that could help you pick out some solid bets on week two.
Arsenal vs Burnley
Arsenal won 73.68% of their home games last season averaging over 2 goals a game. Burnley meanwhile only won 4 away games all season although they did average just over a goal a game away from home.
Aston Villa vs Bournemouth
Aston Villa may have lost 3-1 to Tottenham in their opener but they did show some danger going forward. Bournemouth were undone by a last minute equaliser by Sheffield United. Should be close.
Brighton vs West Ham
Brighton produced the shock win of the opening weekend with an emphatic 3-0 win over Watford. They head into this game as slight favourites but neither side are odds on.
Everton vs Watford
Neither side won on the opening weekend. Everton head into this one as home favourites. They won 52.63% of home games last season but Watford did manage to avoid defeat on the road 57.89% of the time.
Newcastle vs Norwich
Both sides had tough opening games that they were expected to lose. Newcastle only won 4 games on the road last season although they did manage to avoid defeat 63% of the time. Should be close.
Southampton vs Liverpool
Southampton were smashed 3-0 by Burnley whilst Liverpool picked up an easy win against Norwich. Looks a tough game for Southampton on paper. Liverpool are short odds but rightly so.
Manchester City vs Tottenham
This is undoubtedly pick of the games this week. Manchester City head into the game as heavy favourites to win. They won 3 out of 4 games against Spurs last season (one defeat). All games were won by a one goal margin.
Sheffield United vs Crystal Palace
Both sides managed to pick up a point in their opening game. Palace finished 6th in the league away from home last season picking up 9 wins and 2 draws on the road.
Chelsea vs Leicester
Chelsea suffered a 4-0 loss to Manchester United in the opening weekend. Difficult to know how they’ll react. Leicester picked up a draw in their opening game against Wolves.
Wolves vs Manchester United
Manchester United will be confident of a win here but Wolves only lost 5 home games last season. Add that to the fact that Wolves grabbed two wins and a draw against United last season and they’ll feel they have every chance of causing an upset.
